“Freddy is the first turtle in the world to receive an artificial shell using 3D technology and also the first creature our newly formed animal rescue team helps,” said designer Cicero Moraes , said an employee of the Sao Paulo-based volunteer group.

He designed Freddy’s shell by using a computer to create 3D images based on photos of the poor turtle.

He then sent them to Dr. Paulo Miamoto, an expert in oral surgery, who turned Moraes’ design into a real shell using a 3D printer.
