The Virginian Owl, which was in critical condition, was brought to veterinarian Douglas Podzecki, who managed to restore her health and return the bird to the wing. Subsequently, Douglas had to temporarily leave on business, but when he returned to the reserve a few months later, the owl immediately flew to him and hugged him with her wings.

Douglas Podzecki is renowned as one of the chief avian veterinarians at the Mississippi Volunteer Center. He was nicknamed “The Bird Whisperer” and this is a well-deserved title, as he not only has a deep knowledge of birds, but also knows how to establish a relationship of trust with them.

An owl named GiGi, a young Virginian eagle owl, was brought to the center in extremely poor condition. There was little hope for her recovery, but Douglas managed to do the incredible – he helped the owl learn to fly again. The bird showed trust in people and chose the territory of the small reserve, near the building of the center, as its home. GiGi often visited Douglas, but the man once had to temporarily leave on business.

When the vet returned a couple of months later, the owl instantly flew in through the open window. According to the staff, GiGi danced on the table and after Douglas literally hugged her with her wings. This sign of affection and appreciation was a touching moment for everyone present.

In the future, the owl may leave the reserve and go to other habitats. However, she will always remember her savior and is grateful to him for restoring her vitality.
